School Visits
The Eling Experience offers a range of facilities that provide the ideal opportunity for a cross-curricular visit. Help your students to discover a sense of place and make the most of this scenic and historic setting.
Explore the 900 year history of this local mill and see how flour is produced using only the natural power of the tide. See Milling Times for Details.
Visit the Heritage Centre to find our about the history, homes and lives of people in Totton and Eling.
Take a walk around the mill pond and see the wildlife or have lunch by Goatee Beach.
We have put together a range of Teachers Notes and Activity Sheets aimed at KS1 and KS2 which cover various areas of the National Curriculum to offer teachers a 'self led' visit. In addition, we do offer a guided tour of the mill.
We recommend a pre-site visit and all school parties must be pre-booked. In addition, due to fire, safety and evacuation procedures we can only accept groups of 20 in the mill at one time. Larger classes should be split into smaller groups ideally of no more than 15, however, this can be arranged prior to your visit. As we have a number of facilities, whilst one group is in the Mill, the other can be exploring the Heritage Centre or Goatee Beach.
We also have a tea room on site and should you wish to make use of this facility for snacks or food, please advise us prior to your visit.
A visit to the Eling Experience will cost just £1.50 per child (groups over 10) and Teachers/Supervisors are free on a 1-8 ratio.

Important Information
There are no toilets at the Mill, however, there are 3 toilets in the Heritage Centre and Public Toilets in the Car Park next to the Cemetery.
The Mill can be very cold especially in winter, so we suggest very warm and waterproof clothing.

TIDE MILL LAUNCHES NEW BROWN FLOUR
Having milled stone ground flour on site for more than 900 years using the power of the Tide, the historic Eling Tide Mill is proud to announce the production of a brand new brown flour - “Flour of the Forest Brown”.
